                    Welcome to Ayiti*!

Picture
Thank you for visiting the Haiti Reads Gallery which is part of the Haiti Reads Library in Port au Prince, Haiti. All proceeds from the sales of items found here will benefit the literacy and education programs of Haiti Reads.  Items are “portable art” that reflect the culture of Haiti.  Many of the items were made by local artists in Haiti with whom Haiti Reads has contracted.  Haiti Reads supplies these artists with materials and the money paid to them for their work helps support their families in Haiti.

Some items have been created by volunteers of Haiti Reads in the US, and some items were made by English as a New Language students at Mather High School.  These students come from countries throughout the world. By making items to benefit Haiti Reads, they also learn about Haitian life and culture.
(See Kash-Kash Gallery and Caribbean Club MHS)

Whenever possible, reused goods are incorporated into the creation of the art for sale here, thus reducing the number of items being discarded into landfills.  Though prices may be cheaper in discount stores, our items are created through fair trade and with environmental responsibility.  Best of all, all of the proceeds go to helping people in Haiti.

If you have any questions about any items featured on our website, or Haiti Reads, please email us at:
